As I was reading Ashley Bradshaw’s blog about her rhetorical analysis word “icon” I began to think about what I think an Icon is. So I looked up the definition and it said “a picture, image, or other representation” (Dictionary.com), do we as people understand this definition? So I came up with my personal definition which was somebody that shows good characteristics, basically a good role model. I look at T.V. every day and I see the entertainers and I wonder to myself why are they called icons. What are they representing, is it a good representation or what? Then I realized that a icon can be a person good or bad, I came up with this assumption because I see the entertainers do drugs, beat their girlfriends, display bad things to children. Is that okay for an icon? “Celebrity icons and how we as people place them up on this abstract pedestal of perfection. Just because they entertain, or play sports or are even the president, we give them this huge responsibility of being a role model.” (Ashley Bradshaw). When I read this it disturbed me because when they start talking to children and putting their lives on TV. They gave themselves the responsibility of being a role model and especially the President.
